Colombo Airport - Negombo
Your personal driver/guide will be waiting for you at an agreed time in the arrivals hall at Colombo Airport You will then be transferred in your private air conditioned car to a beach hotel(3)in the Negombo area (15 minute drive from the airport). Following your flight, you can relax by the Indian Ocean or swimming pool and enjoy a meal(4)appropriate to the time of day
Negombo - Habarana.
After breakfast your driver/guide will be waiting to take you to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, an institution that has been looking after orphaned or injured elephants for many years Depending on arrival time you may be able to watch baby elephants being milk fed and elephants bathing in the river (tour time 1 to 2 hours)
After breakfast your driver/guide will take you to Polonnaruwa, the medieval capital of Sri Lanka, where you can see well preserved rock cut Buddha statues and a multitude of ancient monuments The sites cover a widespread area and to make the best of your visit Kulansa Tours will arrange for an expert English speaking guide(2)to accompany you, providing excellent interpretation and historical facts
Polonnaruwa - Sigiriya
After an early breakfast(4)we drive to Sigiriya. You will have the opportunity to climb the 200 meters to the rock fortress and see the remains of the palace which was built by King Kashyapa in the 4th Century AD and the world famous frescos painted with earth pigments on plaster and the graffiti on the 'mirror wall'. A professional local guide(2)is recommended for you to get the best out of this visit (tour time 3 to 4 hours)
This part of the tour, to the north east coast of the island, is something experienced only by few visitors.After breakfast(4)leave Sigiriya for the long drive to Trincomalee.Here you can visit Fort Fredrick built by the Portuguese in 1623. Later captured by Dutch and after that by the British in 1795. Also the famous Koneswaram Temple(Temple of a Thousand Pillars) (tour time 2 to 3 hours)
After several days of serious sightseeing it's time for mind and body to take a complete rest. Enjoy a slow breakfast and afterwards spend the day snorkelling,scuba diving or simply lazing on the soft sandy beach in Nilaweli. Alternatively if you still have the energy arrangements can be made for a local boatman/guide(2)to take you around the lagoon or even a fast boat ride to Pigeon Island. Overnight, dinner(4)and hotel(3)at Nilawel.
After breakfast(4)your private car will be waiting to take you the several hours drive to Kandy via Matale where there are several interesting temples that you may wish to visit including the Aluvihara Rock Cave Temple which has numerous monastery caves exhibiting fine frescoes. On arrival in Kandy, late afternoon/early evening, check in to your hotel(3)and have dinner(4)
After breakfast it is time to begin a tour of the city of Kandy, which remains at the centre of the Buddhist faith. This will include visits to the stunning 17th century Temple of the Tooth and the Peradeniya Botanical Garden, which is well known for a variety of over 4000 ornamental and medicinal plants (tour time 2 to 3 hours)
The next stage of the tour you will experience a complete change in landscape (and climate!). Following breakfast(4)drive along steep winding roads with panoramic vistas leading to the hill country in the heart of Sri Lanka where the finest tea is grown. A visit to a working tea plantation and factory with "Colonial British style" architecture will be a highlight (tour time 1 to 2 hours)
Leave early morning, at around 5.30 am, to drive to Horton Plains National Park, which is the only national park situated in the hill country. At this unusually high altitude there is a multiplicity of flora and fauna to be enjoyed. This is an excellent excursion and a paradise for nature lovers, hikers and bird watchers (tour time 4 to 5 hours).
After breakfast(4)drive to Tissamaharama to visit the waterfall coming through green hills and Buduruwagala (stone images of the Buddha) one of the most remarkable spiritual sites which is situated in a rocky clearing of a magical dry zone forest that is inhabited by colourful birds and butterflies. In the evening take a safari to the remarkable Yala National Park where, you can see most of the amazing wildlife found in Sri Lanka.
After breakfast(4)proceed to the most southerly part of Sri Lanka and arrive at Mirissa. Spend time enjoying the spectacular breath-taking sandy beach. Overnight, hotel(3)and dinner(4)Mirissa
Mirissa - Galle
After breakfast(4)travel to Galle and, on the way, visit the Weligama stick fishing attraction (tour time 2 to 3 hours).Late afternoon and early evening take a walk along the fortifications of the impressive well preserved Galle Fort Enjoy the stunning sight of the sun setting over the Indian Ocean. Overnight, hotel(3)and dinner(4)Galle
Sadly the last full day of a wonderful island tour.After breakfast drive to Negombo via Colombo. On the way visit the turtle hatchery, the traditional mask centre and a city tour in Colombo before arriving for your last night in the Negombo area.There will be time for shopping if you want or finish your visit by enjoying a pampering session at a local spa which Kulansa Tours will be happy to arrange for you (additional cost).
Your driver/guide will collect you from your hotel at an agreed time to transport you tothe airport in time for check in for your flight out of Sri Lanka. Tour concludes
(1) Overall tour price For a maximum of two persons includes:
- The services of an experienced English speaking driver/guide
- A comfortable, clean, well maintained, insured and air conditioned vehicle
- Fuel for the vehicle
- Collection from and return to the airport or your hotel/accommodation in the Colombo area
(2) Guides and admission charges
Unless stated as included in the price guests will be required to pay any fees and gratuities to guides for their services and admission charges as appropriate.
Cost NOT included in overall tour price. Kulansa Tours wants to offer its guests flexibility and the widest possible range of hotels or other accommodation from simple guest houses to 5 star luxury hotels within the budget that they have available. Therefore the cost of overnight accommodation is not included in the overall tour price. Please liaise with Kulansa Tours to discuss your requirements and to reserve accommodation for you and your driver/guide. As an example, one night for 2 people in a double or twin room (including breakfast) in a 3 or 4 star hotel will cost between 10,000 and 30,000 LKR.
(4) Meals and Drinks
Cost NOT included in overall tour price. Breakfast is normally included in the hotel room rate. Lunch, dinner, snacks and drinks are not included in the Overall tour price. Whilst on tour, lunch will normally be taken "on the road" stopping at convenient cafes or restaurants. Dinner will be at your hotel or if you wish your driver/guide may be able to suggest local restaurants and will drive you there and back at no additional cost. You will be expected to meet the costs of meals for your driver/guide.
